Building Internal
Leadership
It is likely that
your managers and supervisors are technically trained, skilled and
competent. However, when it is time to promote someone or plan for
replacements, your best people may not have the soft skills that are
required in their new positions.
Soft skills are
usually associated with the
communication skills or
interviewing
and staffing. But, these are critical because as a manager or
supervisor, their new job is to get things through other people. These
skills are absolutely as necessary as the technical requirements of a
job. Also, efficient implementation and timeliness are important.
These skills are also
important to the success of any manager who has
customer service
responsibility or
improving the processes of a section or department.
As an individual contributor, decisions may only affect one
associate’s work, but as a supervisor or manager,
effective decision
making is required because the entire organization could be affected.
In addition to all of this, a manager has to
manage the performance of
the group and manage the
changes as required.
Another challenge is
that some supervisors may be “working supervisors” who are responsible
for some actual work production and the direction of a group of
associates. Therefore they must be able to set and measure priorities
and
manage time effectively.
There are options.
The CEO could authorize development of their own training program from
scratch, or outsource the training to a firm that has developed online
training, instructor led training, or a blended approach of these
methods.
One of the most cost
effective training options is to purchase some off-the shelf training
programs that are flexible and customizable, because medium sized or
smaller organizations may not have a course designer who can spend six
to 12 hours of development time for every hour of instruction, plus
preparation time, participant materials, instructor manual, handouts,
test development, etc.
Your Training
Investment
MDSI offers its training
programs in several digital formats. Our programs are
available in Audio, Flash, and PDF Manual versions, with the
corresponding Participant Materials. The PDF Manual version includes
ready to import PowerPoint and Participant Materials.
Each course includes a
variety of worksheets, Learning Review Exercises with answer keys and
guidance for developing an Action Plan.
If budgets are tight,
downloading a digital course in the desired format may be appropriate.
If you're not sure
what workshops or course your employees would find the most beneficial, we can
help you to assess your employees' skills and knowledge and decide
what would best fill your needs -- from a single course, customized seminar to
an entire training program.

Each
live workshop is extremely realistic because, prior to the workshop, the
client completes the
Guide to Training Excellence. This
identifies the chief concerns that must be instilled and/or corrected
by the training. Relevant examples or behaviors are used throughout
each workshop. Interactive scenarios are based on the issues and
concerns as identified by the client. The participants get relevant
practice.
